Solar Installation

How to install solar

It is usually possible to install solar panels on any type of roof. Solar panels for your home can be fixed flush to the roof or tilted depending on the most efficient angle to capture the light. To get optimum power generation it is highly advised to place the solar panelling in direct sunlight with no obstructions. This is generally northwest or northeast facing for maximum coverage. If you notice anything that may cause a shadow over the panel, either remove that item or reconsider a better position for installation.

Usually you will not need planning permission to install solar energy in England or Scotland, unless you are in a conservation area. Solar power installation has now been considered a ‘permitted development’ under planning law which means there is no longer a need to apply.

To fix a panel to the roof a solar panel mount will be needed, and they come in three different varieties.  These include pole mounts, flush mounts and roof-ground mounts which allow solar panels to be installed pretty much anywhere you desire.

There are a variety of companies that will install solar panels, but be sure to check if they are MCS accredited for a reliable and efficient solar system that is guaranteed to work for years to come. If you need to know more information about solar panels for the home, an MCS accredited solar panel installer can give you detailed information themselves, or you can take a look on the company website as a guide.
